There was no sense of deja vu, I still had to work to find all the objects and solve puzzles, even though I had played it so recently. Graphics and sounds are not as exciting as Devil on the Mississippi, but that's as it should be expected. The story occasionally gets confusing, unless you really stay on top of the clues.
I particularly like being able to see a silhouette of an object before resorting to a hint. With my renewed interest in such games, I decided to replay it to see if my impressions had changed, especially since I have found myself being frustrated with games that are too easy.
They were fairly easy, but I did use hints a few times. One thing I did not like was how precise the clicking had to be. There were times I gave up on an object thinking I was wrong about it because I got the dead-click sound so many times, and then later discovered it actually was the right item.
There were a couple of puzzles, but not many compared to the number of HO scenes, and they were pretty easy, too, although again, I never felt irritated by them. Finally, there are ghost witnesses you can listen to. All the dialogue is silent, midnight mysteries the edgar allan poe conspiracy free download. Also, I kind of liked the cat. It is not logical, but it was still entertaining.
I also liked the role of the books at the end. The music was beautiful and soothing, and I also liked the other sound effects: the dead-click sound when miss clicking, the chime when something is found, and so on.
The raven was occasionally annoying, and the cat was perfect. It was 4 hours the first time I played and shorter this time. Final Assessment: As far as enjoyment goes, this easily ranks as one of my favorites, even after playing and liking more difficult games. I love books and a game based on a real author and his books is very appealing to me. This game was not hard, although at times some of the hidden objects were a little elusive.
